Four men have been arrested for the gang rape of a dancer from Mumbai on New Year’s Eve, police said.
The accused were arrested after police identified them with the help of CCTV footage that showed them withdrawing money from an ATM using the victim’s debit card.
The woman, who was called from Mumbai to perform at a New Year’s party, was drugged and raped by the men on the night of December 31 and January 1.
She realised what had happened once she reached Mumbai and then lodged a complaint with the police in Andheri.
The victim alleged that one of the suspects, Ali, along with three others picked her up at the airport on December 31 and took her to a house where she was served a soft drink mixed with drugs.
The suspects then allegedly raped her, took away her ATM card and withdrew the money using the PIN saved on her mobile. The young woman when she regained consciousness she was on a bus that had just reached Mumbai.
The Central Crime Station (CCS) in Hyderabad took up the investigation after Rakshita (name given by police) reached Mumbai on Friday and filed her statement. Four teams were formed to track down the suspects.
The investigation revealed that the accused, after receiving her at the airport, took her to a house in Toli Chowki where they drugged and raped her.
The victim told police that an event manager, Happy, contacted her to perform at a party in Hyderabad, promised to pay her Rs100,000 (Dh5,972) and arranged for her flight ticket.
